How to Load Labels into the i7100

Loading a Label
  1. Open the printer cover.
  2. Turn ring (2) counterclockwise to unlock the label roll retainer.
  3. Remove the label roll retainer (1).
  4. Load the label roll (3) on the roll retainer. The printing side of the labels must be visible from above.

Every roll except permasleeves will have the labels loaded from the top, as shown above. If using permasleeves, the labels come from the bottom of the printer.

  1. Lock the label roll retainer into place by turning (2) clockwise, so that the arrow points to the locked symbol.
  2. Thread the media under the white rocker arm (5), over the silver arm (6), and under the printhead.
  3. Adjust the red media guide(s) (7) with the knob so the red media guides are against the liner of the label. Clockwise will expand the media guides and counterclockwise to bring together.
  1. Using the black bar, adjust the sensor light. Refer to i7100 Sensor Position for Gapped, Sleeve, Notched, and Multiple Column Gapped Material to determine where the sensor should be for each label type and i7100 - Top Reflect Sensor Setting for the setting on the printer.

How to Load Ribbon Material into the i7100

Note: Clean the printhead before loading the transfer ribbon. Refer to How to Clean the i7100 Printer.

  1. Turn lever (6) counterclockwise to lift the printhead.
  2. Slide transfer ribbon roll (1) onto the ribbon supply (2) so that the color coating of the ribbon faces downward when being unwound as shown in the image above.
  3. Position the roll so it is centered.
  4. Hold the transfer ribbon roll (1) firmly and turn knob (3) on ribbon supply (2) counterclockwise until the transfer ribbon roll is secured.
  5. Slide suitable transfer ribbon core (4) onto the transfer ribbon take-up (5) and secure it in the same way. You do not need a transfer ribbon core to wind the ribbon, however, it makes it easier if you switch materials often.
  6. Guide the transfer ribbon through the print unit by going under the printhead and over the silver bars as seen below.
  1. Secure starting end of transfer ribbon to the transfer ribbon core (4) with adhesive tape or wind the ribbon a few times to be secure.
  2. Turn transfer ribbon take-up (7) counterclockwise to smooth out the feed path of the transfer ribbon.
  3. Turn lever (6) clockwise to lock the printhead.
