Advanced BWS Removal Process
These instructions may be necessary in cases where the standard removal process does not resolve the issue. Usually it is required when multiple suites (PWID or SFID and Data Automation, Labelmark Upgrade Suite, or Scan & Print) that share some apps (like Custom Designer) have been installed on the PC (usually at different times in the past. We let anyone install any app or suite without a license to use it on a trial basis to see if it meets your needs). Perform the steps below in order.
- Backup all Brady Workstation files: Brady Workstation - Where Are the Label Files Located? How to Find Saved Files?
- In Programs & Features, uninstall 1.) Bonjour (we install it along with Brady Workstation to manage our internal print drivers) 2.) Brady Data Automation if installed, then 3.) uninstall Brady Workstation.
- In File Explorer, delete the following folder: C:\Program Files\Brady Corp\Brady Workstation (and Data Automation folder if that is in the Brady Corp folder).
- Go into Regedit, select Computer, click Edit / Find and enter Brady Workstation Delete almost all entries for "Brady Workstation" (Edit / Find), pressing F3 to go to the next instance of it. NOTE: do not delete any registry entries the start with C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\ ... and ends with license.lf WARNING: Modifying the registry requires full administrative privileges, and mistakes can cause boot failure. CAUTION: this should only be performed by an IT Professional. If in doubt about a file, don't delete. If you are not proficient using Regedit, do not. In that case, continue to the next step.
- Reboot the PC.
- Login with Domain or Elevated Administrator rights.
- Download the latest version of the Brady Workstation Suite you have a license for from here (be sure to click Add to select the suite you have a license for. Then click Continue on right. It should add the Brady Workstation shell in addition to your suite), then click Download. If you do not have a license, download the Basic Design Suite.
- While logged on as Domain Admin, extract all files, click Brady Workstation Setup.exe to select it, right-click it and select Run As Administrator.
- After the install finishes, it will ask "Installation complete. Launch Now?" with Close and Launch as options. Select Launch to load the software and then Close Brady Workstation.
- Open File Explorer and go to C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Brady Workstation\
- Open the Bundles folder.
- Delete all folders that are not the suite you have a license for.
- Go back one folder level to C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Brady Workstation.
- You will see a file: InstalledPacksMetadata.xml. Right-click the file, select Open With, and select Notepad.
- Delete any line that starts with <Item Type="Bundle" Name= if the name includes any other suite than what you have a license for.
- Save & Close the InstalledPacksMetadata.xml file.
- Close Brady Workstation.
- Now launch Brady Workstation. It should show "installing components" and install the current Brady Workstation software and suite or apps you downloaded in Step 7.
