Clean Without the Cleaning Card

The cleaning cards make cleaning convenient, but are not necessary to clean the sensor components of the printer. See this article for detailed instructions to locate and clean the sensors: BMP61 - Backfeeding labels, Check Media and Replace Cartridge Errors

A single screw allows the cutter assembly to be removed, this allows easier access to the print head if you do not have the cleaning card. The print head appears as a green strip on a bronze circuit board - be sure to only clean the green and black strip portion, do not get cleaning solution on the bronze board or ribbon cable.

Clean the BMP61 Notch Sensors

The BMP61 contains three sensors. Clean these areas using compressed air or a swab with a 90% isopropyl alcohol solution.

The first sensor is right above the spindle on the right, or near the back of the printer.

The second and third sensor is a bit harder to locate but can be found near the front ribbon spindle, or near the front of the printer. It is easiest to follow the curve of the metal plate until it makes the 90 degree turn and look directly behind and above that spot.
