Error 16 - "Printer Not Ready" or "'Print Cover is Open During Printing"

The S3100 displays "Error 16, Printer not ready. Close and latch ribbon cover" or the printer is making motor noises when latching ribbon cover.
 
Resolution

Make sure the cutter is latched into position and the print head / ribbon cover is latched into place on both sides: 
 
  1. Disengage and reseat the cutter by squeezing the yellow tabs as shown below. You will hear two audible "clicks" when the cutter snaps into place.

  1. Load the label material so the leading edge is on the black roller between the yellow material guides and the yellow cutter assembly latches: S3100 - How to Load Ribbon and Label Materials.
 
  1. Press the print head / ribbon assembly down into place by pressing down on both sides.

  1. If this does not clear the error, turn the printer off (if no power switch next to power cord, unplug the printer), and then turn it back on.
