The outside of the BBP31 is different than the BBP33, however the internal components are identical.
There are 4 main components that need to be cleaned periodically to keep your printer running smoothly and efficiently. We recommend cleaning these components whenever you run out of label or ribbon materials or once weekly if used frequently:
The roller should be manually rotated to clean all the way around. You should disconnect the power cable from the printer before any cleaning is done. It is also much easier to clean the cutter with the scraper tool that is shipped with your printer. When cleaning the print head, ensure to only clean the green strip and avoid getting alcohol on the orange circuitry below it.
After many cuts and materials moving through the cutter it can accumulate dust, debris, and adhesive. This can cause jamming of label materials and lessen the lifespan of the cutter. Best practice is to keep it clean.
It is recommended that the cutter is cleaned every 1200 cuts. The intended lifetime of the cutter is 10,000 cuts.
To determine how many cuts the printer has made, press the Menu button on the top center of the BBP31 LCD display, then click on More Tools (lower right), then Diagnostic (3rd / last button down) then Info (button in lower left).
Turn the printer off.
Open the printer cover and press forward on the yellow ribbon cover latch.
Remove labels and ribbon.
Squeeze the two yellow cutter tabs to release the cutter. The cutter mechanism and exit chute will slide down behind the ribbon cover.
Using the isopropyl alcohol lint-free swab, clean the metal cutting blade until all residue is removed.
If the cutting blade shows significant residue, use the cutter cleaning tool or a flat-edged tool to gently scrape the reside off the cutting blade.
Clean the Cutter Sensor.
Close the Cutting Blade by pushing up on the exit chute until the cutter tabs snap into place.
Note: You may need to hold the ribbon cover up slightly to access the exit chute.
