Driver Security Settings

Printer drivers are protected by Windows security settings. These security settings can often prevent software from communicating with printer drivers, or printers from communicating installed ribbon and label information to the software. Enabling driver security settings can resolve communication issues between the software and the printer. This only needs to be done once per driver install.

Note:
If you you're using a Direct Print printer with Brady Workstation, these steps aren't necessary. Unless you're using Data Automation, a driver is not required: Brady Workstation - Direct Print Compatibility

Administrative rights are required to perform these steps. If these driver options are blocked, you will need to contact your IT to obtain sufficient privileges.

Written Instructions

1. Go to the Start Menu and type "Printers" and launch "printers and scanners."

4. Click on the Security tab.

Note: If the security options are grayed out, go to the start menu and launch Print Management. Go to Printers > Right Click > Properties > Security Tab, you may be able to edit the permission from that window, if not, reach out to your IT.

5. Select each group: Everyone and ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and make sure the top three Allow boxes are checked.  By default, usually only the Allow permission for the top Print option is checked. Typically providing all but Special Permissions to the Everyone and Application Packages profiles resolves most issues.  If in doubt, select all groups and check the top three Allow boxes.

  • Note: This usually only needs to be done once for each new driver installation. The Special Permissions box does not need to be checked.

6. Click Apply.
