CAUTION! Do not rub the swab over the bronze-colored area of the printhead. This may short the circuit.

Cleaning the Print Roller

Clean the print roller frequently, especially if you see ink or adhesive buildup on the roller. If there is
visible damage to the roller or small beads of rubber on the roller, replace the roller following these instructions: i5300 - Replacing the Print Roller.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power supply.

  1. Open a new pre-moistened foam swab and use it to clean the rubber roller. Use as many swabs as necessary to thoroughly clean the surface.

  1. Turn the roller to access the entire surface of the platen roller. Push the top of the roller firmly toward the back of the printer, which will offer some resistance.
Note: It is important to clean the entire platen roller. There may be adhesive or residual dust on the platen roller.

Cleaning the Sensors

The cutter sensor, center sensor and media guide sensors are located inside the printer and may be covered with dust that results from cutting the labels. One of the supply sensors is located under the yellow supply guide. The cutter sensor is located above the cutting blade and is visible only when the cutter is released.

  • Side label sensors (label out and die-cuts)

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power supply.

  1. Squeeze the two yellow cutter tabs to release the cutter. The cutter mechanism falls forward to expose the cutter sensor, and the exit chute drops down a little to accommodate the motion.

a. If the cutting blade shows significant residue, use the cutter cleaning tool in the cleaning kit to gently scrape the residue off the cutting blade.
b. Open a pre-moistened cleaning swab. Alternatively, moisten a foam swab with isopropyl alcohol. Do not allow the alcohol to drip from the swab.
c. Clean cutting blade with moistened swab until all residue is removed.
d. Clean beneath the edges of the blade housing with moistened swab. To avoid forcing residue deeper into the machine, use motions from the outer edge of the blade toward the center.
