Issues/Symptoms
- The printers says it's out of labels, even though there are plenty of labels remaining in the box.
- The printer gas gauge indicates more media is remaining, but the box has run out of labels.
- The BMP61 may give "invalid media, replace media" error message.
- Printers may give "out of media" errors even though labels remain.
CauseBulk media boxes for the BMP61, M610, M611, BMP71, and M710 printers include a separate plastic core. This core contains a chip that tells the printer what media is installed, which ribbon should be used, and how many labels remain in the box.
Note: Do not swap cores between boxes. The core contains a chip that is programmed with the number of labels. To ensure our labels have enough material for consistent application, we've implemented a 10% overage in the programming. This may occasionally result in a slight excess on the label roll, but it guarantees a smooth labeling experience for our customers.
When a bulk media core is depleted, it should be disposed of along with it's original box of labels. If a user simply opens another box and does not install the new core that comes with the box, this will result in a counter mismatch between the core and the number of labels remaining. Brady's smart cell chips cannot be bypassed or overridden.
Avoid this situation by taking the following precautions:
- Always use the core that comes in the bulk box - when a new box is opened, the included core should be installed.
- Keep each core with its original box.
- Do not swap cores between printers and boxes.
You can confirm you have the right core by matching the part number and lot number on the bulk core to the box of the bulk labels. If the part number and lot number do not match, you do not have the right core for that box of labels. How to Load Bulk Media in Brady Portable Printers
