Brady Workstation - Direct Print Compatibility

Direct Print 

Direct Print is a printer communication feature of Brady Workstation. Most software will require a separate printer driver allowing Windows to communicate between the physical printer and software. Direct Print is essentially an internal "driver" that bypasses the need for a separate driver for some Brady printer models.

Note: Data Automation does not implement Direct Print, all Brady Printers require a driver for use with Data Automation.

How Do I Setup Direct Print?

Direct Print is a zero configuration feature of Brady Workstation. Simply plug a Direct Print compatible printer into your PC via USB and it will be recognized in the software. Select the USB-connected printer that appears with the USB port number in brackets. 



Will Direct Print Work Over A Network Connection?

While this feature also works over network connections, tightened corporate network security restrictions may require additional setup: Brady Printers - Networked Printer Does not Appear in Printers App or in Printer Selection Dropdown.

Additional Details

• Direct Print is not the same as Smart Printer technology, although some Smart Printers do support Direct Print - Brady Printers That Support Smart Printer Technology.
• Installing a Windows driver for a Direct Print model may cause communication issues in Brady Workstation. Reference this article if a driver is listed in Devices and Printers for any of the models listed below: Printer Drivers - Full Driver Removal.

• Direct Print uses the Brady Printer Language (BPL), however not all Direct Print printers support creation of custom scripts by the end user: BPL and Script Based printing.

*While the GlobalMark 2 is Direct Print compatible, serial to USB hardware of this model requires an additional driver. While this driver should install automatically as part of Workstation, we have seen cases where the GlobalMark 2 was not accessible as a Direct Print printer.
