November 2018 BPL Update
BPL is a printer control language that allows a user to write lines of code using a set of available BPL language commands (called a script) and send it to the printer. BPL is recognized by several printers in the Brady offering:
- BBP33 (obsolete printer)
- i3300
- Wraptor (obsolete printer)
- Wraptor A6500
- i5300
NOTE: Printer models like the BBP31, S3100, BBP35/37, BBP85 are not BPL script capable.
Brady acknowledges that the BPL command set is fairly limited in its scope of capabilities and until recently also contained several commands that did not work properly. In November 2018 Brady either fixed or removed a small quantity of BPL commands that were not working correctly (most were fixed, a few were removed) and also updated the BPL Programmers Manual to align with these changes.
In Nov 2018 the BPL command set with fixed commands was implemented for the following printers accordingly:
- i3300 (received all BPL commands including all the fixed commands)
- Wraptor A6500 (received a subset of the BPL commands including fixed commands--in Nov 2019 Wraptor A6500 will then receive all BPL commands incl all fixed commands)
The fixed BPL commands are not backward compatible with the now obsolete BBP33 and now obsolete “original Wraptor” models.
Note: The BBP33 uses an older version of BPL with a limited command set. BPL is not recommended for use on this model. BPL was refreshed in November of 2018 for use on the i3300 and A6500 model printers. The most current BPL guide can be downloaded on BradyID.
BPL Support
Brady supports the current BPL command set for use with the i3300 and Wraptor A6500 printers. This support is as follows:
- Brady Technical Support - Free BPL support consists of a BPL Programmers Manual (attached) which outlines the BPL commands and how to code them, and free technical phone support on basic questions about the capabilities of the BPL commands in that manual.
- Applications Engineering team: Fee-based BPL support on how to use the manual, assistance in building codes, code troubleshooting, and complete script-writing service. They often work with customers to integrate Brady Software (usually Scan & Print or Data Automation), with Brady Printers, and users' ERP (usually SAP or LIMS), Database (Excel, Access, SQL) or in-house systems. If you are interested, contact technical support. They will have an engineer contact you to schedule a scoping call to determine your needs, systems, printer(s), time-line, cost, etc.
Future of BPL
Brady is in the process of identifying more BPL commands to add which will expand BPL's capabilities to meet more customer applications for the i3300 and Wraptor A6500 printers as well as for potential additional future printer introductions. This list of new commands already includes 30+ new commands that add functionality commonly found in other Printer Control Languages in the market.
