Issue
The IP series printer does not come with a ribbon supply spool.
Cause
IP Printers ship without a Ribbon Supply Spindle. This is because the spindle comes as part of all IP enabled ribbons. If you purchased standard THT ribbons (Rxxxx) instead of IP Enabled Ribbons (IP-Rxxxx), you would need to purchase the universal core from BradyID.
IP Enabled Materials
To be fully "IP" ("Intelligent Printer", automated), users should buy ribbons that start with "IP-" For example: IP-R4307, IP-R6002, IP-R6200, etc). This way the ribbon material will be centered on the spindle (since the IP Printer is center justified while most THT printers are left justified) and the printer will detect if the ribbon loaded is the correct ribbon recommended for the label material used (some ribbons are was, some are resin, some are a mixture of both. Different ribbon material adheres to differently to different materials), how much is left on the roll, etc. For more information see: IP 300 / 600 - Difference between IP Enabled and IP Compatible label materials.
Universal Ribbon Core
To use standard THT ribbons that fit most THT printers; for example R4300, R4302, R4307, R6000, R6002, R6007, or non-Brady ribbons, you will need to order the universal ribbon core. IP-R-UNIV-CORE, Catalog # 108231.
It comes with 3 spacers, each a different color, needed to center the ribbon on the spindle. Each spacer width varies, to accommodate different ribbon widths. If you look at IP Ribbons (IP-R4300, IP-R4302, IP-R6000, etc), you will notice they too have the different colored spacers (except Rxxx7, the widest ribbon, which doesn't need a spacer).
