How to print from ETAP software to a Brady IP300 Printer

These instructions were developed using ETAP 11.0 printing to a Brady IP300 with Driver Version 3.10, Win 7, 64 bit operating system.

1. Set the IP300 as the default printer and set its Printing Default settings to: USER and define the user parameters.  Example:  for the 4X6 DANGER label, THTEL-25-483-1-DA, use the following settings:  Sensor Type: Gapped;  Gap: .1”;  Height: 4”, Width: 6”

Note:  to set the Printing Default settings you MUST go into Printer Properties, Advanced, Printing Defaults, Advanced, Paper Size Properties, USER (and then the settings listed above.)
Going into Printer Preferences and changing the settings does NOT establish Printer Default settings.

Upon opening ETAP, go to File => Print Setup.  The IP300 should be listed as the active printer if it was made the system default printer.  The Paper Size will probably NOT show USER.  Ignore it.

From an open ETAP file using Report Manager:

2. Select study view Short-Circuit Analysis.
3. Open Report Manager (Click on the Paper Icon on the Right below the red bell.)
4. Select the Label-English tab (or other language.)
5. Select a Label that matches the Label inside the printer.  Example: Use ‘4X6 Brady-Bus’ for the THTEL-25-483-1-DA label with the pre-printed DANGER header.
6. The print preview will NOT look correct.  Ignore it.
7. Select Print (using the Print icon; not Print Setup from the File drop-down); ETAP should have already selected the IP300 since it is the system default printer; go to Preferences: the paper settings should already be set as in 1 above as defaults.  Change them if necessary.
8.  Select number of copies.
9.  Select Page and the number 1 or the number of labels from the report manager list you want to print.
10. Apply & Print
  • Note:  if you hit Apply and Cancel, it will still print.
11. Repeat steps 2 through 10 above every time you want to print.  See Note on Print Preview and Multiple Label Prints below.

From an open ETAP file using Bus Editor:

12. From any Study View (Project Editor, Short- Circuit, etc. ) open the bus editor for the subject bus.
13. Go to the Arc Flash tab.
14. Select a Label that matches the label inside the printer.  Example: Use 4X6 Brady-Bus for THTEL-25-483-1-DA label with pre-printed DANGER header.
15. Select Print from beside the Label drop-down menu.
16. The print preview will NOT look correct.  Ignore it.
17. Select Print (using the Print icon, not Print Setup from the File drop-down); ETAP should have already selected the IP300 since it is the system default printer; Preferences: change the paper settings as in 1 above if necessary.  They should already be set as defaults.
18. Select number of copies.
19. Select Page and the number 1.
20. Apply & Print
  • Note:  if you hit Apply and Cancel, it will still print.
21. Repeat steps 12 through 20 every time you want to print. See Note on Print Preview and Multiple Label Prints below.

Note on Print Preview and Multiple Label Prints
:  AFTER step 10 or 20, (after actually printing once), the forward arrow can be clicked and the print preview will show the correct formatting.  You can print again, before exiting the print view screen, without re-setting the print setup.   Also, if printing multiple labels from the Report Manager, you can print the first label, (page 1) to be sure it’s working, then click the forward arrow and look at the remaining labels (pages) in the list with the correct formatting before proceeding to print them.
