Creating MIL-STD-130N Compliant DoD UID Barcodes in Brady Workstation
Note: UID stands for Unique Identification, which is also referred to as IUID - Item Unique Identification.
- Determine the UID Construct (1 or 2) and Format (6 or 12)
Note: This information should be provided by your contract. If you are unsure, use Construct 2 Format 12.
- Download the file from this article and open it in Brady Workstation Print Partner app.
- Enter the Cage Code, Part Number. If using Construct 2, enter Serial Number in the fields in the upper right of the screen.
- Select your printer.
- Select Print.
If you want to edit the template:
- Close the template in Print Partner.
- Open Brady Workstation's Custom Designer.
- Click Open, Browse, find the template you want to edit, select it and click Open.
- Edit the template as needed.
Important: These templates use a Combined Field to concatenate (string together) your data (Cage Code, Part Number, Serial Number) in the proper order, using the correct Start Code, Record & Group Separators and Data Identifiers. Use Caution editing fields. If you change field names or the Combined Fields formula, you may cause the barcode to fail DoD UID Compliance.
- Once you are done editing it, save the file.
- Close the file in Custom Designer.
- If you double-click the file name on the Recent Files blue panel on the left of the Brady Workstation Home screen, or on the file name in Windows File Explorer, it will automatically open in Print Partner.
