Brady Workstation - Creating a Backup of the GHS Database
Body
Backing Up GHS Databases
The GHS app allows end users to create custom chemicals. Chemical libraries are saved locally on the same PC running the GHS app. These instructions can be used when transferring a GHS license to a new PC, or when reinstalling GHS to resolve stability issues or problems experienced when attempting to update the software.
Due to database structure changes between older versions of GHS and newer, an update may make your existing database unreadable, therefore exporting the data to Excel before update is recommended.
Method 1 - Use the Export Chemicals Button (Current Versions of GHS) Much preferred for use as backup and for providing chemical database for GHS on a different PC, or if Brady Workstation has not had several updates applied and GHS is older than 1 or 2 versions back. Updates made to GHS has made it difficult to open saved .sdf files from much older GHS versions. If this is the case, the GHS app may not launch.
Method 2 - Copy the GHS.DataBase.sdf File to External or Network Storage This is a good option if you were unable to export the chemicals (Method 1) before updating or uninstalling Brady Workstation and you can pull this file from a restore point. If you use this option and the sdf file is from a Brady Workstation GHS Labels app more than one version back, it may not work at all. If you do use this method, make sure Brady Workstation is closed when copying the file.
Note: Reference this article if you are transferring your database from an older GHS installation to a newer GHS installation. Always backup your GHS .sdf file to multiple locations before updating or removing the software: Transferring GHS Database .SDF Files From Old GHS Installations

2. Copy the GHS.DataBase to a safe location.
