Bidirectional Communication & Smart Printer TechnologyBrady software can detect installed media in printers supporting Smart Printer technology. This eliminates the need to manually select from extensive parts lists, and ensures ribbon and label compatibility. This is accomplished via bidirectional communication (bidi). Bidi allows a standalone device, such as a THT printer, to communicate back to a workstation. Smart Printer media information is read from a Smart Cell microchip or RFID tag located on the media: Why Do Some Brady Materials Contain Smart Cell Microchips or RFID Tags?
Note: Not all printers that use chipped or RFID-enabled media support bidirectional communication, see below.
