Body | Brady Workstation - Data Automation: Version, Log and Channel files These files contain important error information when troubleshooting Data Automation issues. These files can be attached to an email and provided to Brady Technical Support for analysis.
Note: These instructions are for finding Data Automation log files only. Reference this article to find log files for all other Brady Workstation apps: Brady Workstation - Log Files 1. Move the InstalledPacksMetadata.xml file to the Data Automation folder. This file shows which apps and/or suites were installed on the PC, even if later deleted; unless the deletion included a full uninstall of the software where the Brady Workstation folder was deleted from C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp folder. Move the file FROM C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Brady Workstation TO C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Data Automation
2. Generate the AddInsInformation.xml file This file captures which apps and/or suites are currently installed and which version they are, the PC's OS version & build, and the software license information if available. Do this by clicking the question mark in the top right corner of the BWS Home screen and selecting "About Brady Workstation". Then click on the "Export Version Information" button.
3. Get the AddInsInformation.xml file. When you click Export Version Information shown above, a pop-up box states "Brady Workstation version information has been saved. To view in folder click here" and the word "here" is a link. Click it. It takes you to the file location in Windows File Explorer.
4. Move the AddinsInformation.xml file. Click to select the AddInsInformation.xml file and right-click it and select Copy. Now in the file location path at the top, you will see Local Disk (C:) > ProgramData\Brady Corp\Brady Workstation\Logs. Click on the words 'Brady Corp' to move back two folders. Below Brady Workstation folder you will see Data Automation folder, double-click on it (like in step 1, you are leaving the Brady Workstation folder and going into the Data Automation folder: C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Data Automation) Paste your AddinsInformation.xml file (press the CTRL+V keys on your keyboard) into C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Data Automation
5. Zip your Data Automation version and log files needed to troubleshoot. Click the first file in the folder C:\ProgramData\Brady Corp\Data Automation to select it (see image at bottom of these instructions). Then hold down Shift as you click on the last file in the list; all files will be blue. Be sure the ChannelConfig.xml file is included. Now right-click any blue file and click Send To then Compressed Zipped Folder. It will automatically name it the name of the first file, change it, making the file name your name or your company's name for us to easily identify the file belongs to you. See picture below Step 6 directly below.
6. Attach the following files to your email to Brady Tech Support:
- the zip file you just made
- the label template file used in Data Automation that is having a problem, and
- a sample csv or txt file.
If you are already in an email conversation with Tech Support, reply to your last email and add the files. If they did not provide a case number or send you an email, send it to tech_support@bradycorp.com with your contact info and description of problem. |
