There are several reasons your BMP71 may not be displaying the correct label part number, or may give a "no media installed" error. Please verify the following:
1. The BMP71 requires firmware version 1.13 or higher in order to recognize BMP61 and TLS2200 label materials: How to use BMP61, TLS2200 and Handimark labels in BMP71 printer
2. The smart cell is not making contact with the pins - We have observed cases where media using the "duck bill" adapter does not provide a snug fit for the media. Contact Brady Technical Support for additional troubleshooting options: Global Brady Technical Support Contact Information3. Confirm the smart cell sensor is intact – Inside the printer where the labels are inserted, on the side closest to the display, there are two metal sensor bars. These make contact with the smart cell located on the label roll, and communicate what the material is that is installed.
- Please verify that these sensors are intact – They should be an even distance from the printer wall, and not have any noticeable “dings” in them.
- If these sensors are dirty they will not make proper contact with the smart cell. Please clean these sensors with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab/cloth.
4. Keep bulk media cores with their original boxes - If you are using bulk material, please make sure you are using a fresh core with each box you open. This smart cell on this core has a “countdown”, just like our non-bulk materials. Once this counter reaches ‘0’ you will receive one of several errors, or the printer simply will not read the material.
5. Part number does not display with TLS or Handimark materials - If you are using TLS or Handimark materials in your BMP71, the label part number will not display. This is due to a difference in programming between the smart cells. The materials for the TLS/Handimark do not support bi-directional communication.
