HOW TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE OF THE BBP11 PRINTER
IMPORTANT NOTE - If your printer has firmware version 6.65EZ, you have the original firmware that was qualified when the printer was launched in the Americas. There are no known problems with firmware version 6.65EZ. There are only two reasons why you should ever need to upgrade or reload the printer's firmware.
1) If you worked with Brady Tech Support about a problem and the Tech Support representative recommends that you reload the firmware.
2) If the printer is using a custom program which enables it to be used stand-alone AND that program requires specific functionality that is not available in firmware version 6.65EZ. There are two specific programming commands that are gained when upgrading to firmware 6.78EZ. Those commands are TEXTPIXEL and BARCODEPIXEL.
1. Open the Diagnostic Tool. The Diag tool can be downloaded from this article: BBP11 and BBP12 - Diagnostic Tool Download
2. Click on the Command Tool tab in the Diagnostic Tool.
3. Click Send File.
4. Browse to the Firmware file. Firmware files always have the file extension ".NEW".
5. Click Open. The Firmware file will transfer to the printer and the printer's LED light will begin to flash Green and Red. DO NOT TOUCH THE PRINTER OR THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL WHILE THE LIGHT IS FLASHING. You will also see a progress bar in the Diagnostic Tool showing how far along the firmware transfer is.
6. After the light on the printer is done flashing and the progress bar has disappeared, the Diagnostic Tool has finished sending the firmware to the printer.
Special note - The firmware file for firmware version 6.78EZ is not readily available to the public. This is because the firmware should only be updated in specific cases. If you feel that you need to update the firmware to version 6.78EZ you will need to contact Brady Technical Support first. The original firmware ( version 6.65EZ ) is available to the public and can be downloaded from this article: BBP11 - Firmware File version 6.65EZ
