Replace the printhead if you consistently see the same unprinted spots on labels. Both 300 and 600 dpi printheads are available. Make sure to use the appropriate printhead for your model of the printer. You can see whether you have a 300 or 600 dpi model on the About screen. A mismatched printhead will not work properly.
CAUTION! Take the following precautions to avoid damaging the printhead with electrical discharge or mechanical influences.
- Set the printer on a grounded surface. Leave the printer plugged in, but turn off the power.
- Ground yourself (with an anti-static wrist strap, for example).
- Do not touch the connectors.
- Do not touch the heating element with hands or hard objects. (The heating element is the dark brown strip called out in the image below.)
Replacing the Printhead
- Remove the label supply from the printer.
- Open the ribbon door and remove the ribbon.
CAUTION! If the printhead is hot, allow it time to cool before proceeding. Handling a hot printhead could result in burns.
- Pull on the locking pin and lift up the printhead.
- Rotate the printhead to expose the cables. Note the orientation of the cables so that you attach them to the new printhead in the same orientation.
- Remove the two cable connectors, one white and one black. To remove the white cable, squeeze the tab to release it while pulling it out.
- Insert the cable connectors into the new printhead.
- While pulling the pin out, set the new printhead on its mounting.
- Release the pin to lock the printhead in place.
- Reinstall the label supply and ribbon, the close the ribbon door and rear cover.
