Running as Administrator
User Account Control (UAC) is an access control feature introduced in Windows Vista. UAC limits the level of system access an application is allowed in the operating system. This means the person installing software, drivers or devices is required to manually grant access to specific applications that request system resources, even if the user account has administrator level access to the system. To install any software or device driver, to avoid the issues below, the installer should be logged in with full Domain Admin or Admin with Elevated Admin Privileges. Doing so lets the software use the resources and access it needs even when non-admins are using the software.
Issues Caused by Insufficient Privileges
- Installed software does not launch
- Software installation executable will not launch
- Installed printer drivers are not displayed in the software
- Access to driver settings is disabled
- The software freezes and crashes at print time
- The software is unable to perform license activation, or only activates temporarily
Best Practices
Brady’s software requires access to printer drivers and printing-related services in the operating system. For this reason, we recommend running software and driver installation executables using right click + Run As Administrator, even when logged in with full admin credentials.
