Body | The sensors in the IP Series and i5100 use infrared light to detect and calibrate the label material. While these lights are not visible to the naked eye, they are visible when using a cell phone camera.
This method can be used to verify that the sensors are illuminating. If they are not, there may be a mechanical issue and the printer will need to be sent in for repair.
The pictures below show an IP Series printer with both the gap sensor and notch sensor illuminated. The sensors will cast a faint violet light as shown.
Notch Sensor - The notch sensor will not illuminate unless there is IP Enabled notched material installed, and that material has been fed through the printer. In this case, load the notched materials, verify that the label part is showing on the Ready screen, and press feed to enable the notch sensor.
Gap Sensor set to 1 - The illuminated sensor will change based on the dip switch setting
