How to Install the Driver for the LABXpert and IDXpert

• Note: The IDXpert/LABXpert printer models were discontinued at the end of 2013. RJ-11 (phone jack) or a USB connection type was available depending on the printer model. These connection types each required a different driver version. IDXpert and LABXpert with the RJ-11 (phone jack) connection type currently work in Windows 10, the driver for the USB connection type does not. The USB driver is not digitally signed. These drivers will not be updated as current product offerings have replaced these obsolete printer models. This article covers driver installation for the RJ-11 model in Windows 10. See attachments for instructions in older Windows versions.

IDXpert and LABXpert models with the USB type B connection will not work in Windows 10. 



LABXpert and IDXpert printer models with an RJ-11 jack work in Windows 10. 




Requirements

• Serial to USB adapter (most modern PC's will not include a 9-pin serial port)
• February 2013 driver package (attached)
   

Driver Download  

1. Run the installation .exe. 



2. Select the appropriate printer model.



3. Connect the IDXpert.



4. Choose "Add a local printer or network printer..." and click Next. 

5. Choose a COM port. You can change this selection later if needed.



6. Choose the IDXpert and click next. Follow prompts to complete installation.



7. Place printer into peripheral mode. 

• Press the menu button
• Press Next 3 times
• Select the soft key for PC

Configure Port Settings

1. Navigate to Devices and Printers and expand the Ports (COM & LPT) item. Note the COM number.



2. Right Click the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port and click Properties. 

3. Go to the Port Settings tab, confirm these fields are configured with these options then click OK: 

• Bits per second 115200
• Data bits 8
• Parity None
• Stop bits 1
• Flow control Xon/Xoff

4. Navigate to Control Panel > View Devices and Printers. 

5. Right Click the IDXpert and choose Printer Properties. 



6. Go to the Ports tab, confirm COM port number checked matches the COM port number listed for the Prolific device in Devices and Printers in step 1. 

7. Click Configure Port, confirm the port settings here match the settings in step 3.
