Required items:

Steps to Configure the Input Output Interface:
  1. Install the I/O Interface.
  2. Configure the SUB-D 25 pin.
  3. Install the I/O Interface Connector SUB-D 25 pin.
  4. Adjust printer settings.

Review the Safety Regulations attached to this article. 

1. Install i7100 I/O Interface
 
  1. Power off and unplug the printer. 
 
  1. Use the Allen Key included with the printer to unscrew the 2 screws on the back of the printer.

  1. Remove the screws and the metal plate from the back of the printer.
 
  1. Unscrew the 2 screws on the gray side panel using the Allen Key and remove the side panel.

  1. Insert the i7100 I/O Interface into the open slot on the back of the printer. The connector cable will face the opening of the printer.

  1. Put the 2 screws into the I/O Connector and use the Allen key to tighten the screws into the I/O Connector.

  1. Insert the white connector from the I/O Connector cable into the connector on the board of the i7100.
The two raised pieces on the cable end will line up to the notches in the white piece on the board.

  1. Place the side panel back on the printer. Make sure you insert the tabs into the opening at the bottom.

  1. Place the two screws into the side panel and use the Allen Key to tighten each screw.

2. Configure the SUB-D 25 pin

Program the pins. This setup is up to the user to configure.

3. Install i7100 I/O Interface Connector SUB-D 25pin

  1. Open the housing [2] by loosening the housing screw. Release the housing cover using a screwdriver.

  1. Strip the cable according to the specified stripping lengths [3]. Fold back 10 mm of the braided shield over the outer cable sheath. Remove the aluminum foil.

  1. Connect the cables. Cable entry can be from the right or left side. The plug as supplied is pre-assembled for left-hand entry.

Lift the PCB out of the housing using a screwdriver. Insert the PCB in the housing cover. 
D-SUB contact 1 = Screw connection 1
D-SUB contact 2 = Screw connection 2
Screw stripped conductors into the corresponding connection block contacts.

Strain relief: For cable type A in accordance with EN 50170: Turn the clip bracket [4]. Lay the shielding under the clip bracket of the strain relief and screw tight [5]. Subsequently, close and screw tight the housing half shells.

  1. Attach the I/O SUB-D 25 Pint Connector to the back of the i7100. 
 
4. Adjust Printer Settings

Turn on Print on Demand on the i7100: Settings > Setup > Printing > Print on Demand.

Parameters can be configured from the i7100 LCD screen under Setup > Interfaces > I/O, see page 20 of the i7100 configuration guide (also attached to this article):
