Body | Issue/SymptomsThe BMP61 powers up and the battery shows full charge, but then the printer suddenly shuts off. Some users also report the printer printing distorted or "squished" text. The issues are resolved by connecting the BMP61 to AC power. CauseThe BMP61 uses a rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery. Batteries using this technology will have a shortened life span if left on a charger after full charge, or if the battery is charged before complete discharge. In reported cases, the end user had been leaving the printer plugged in over night and when not in use. This behavior can shorten the life of the battery.ResolutionIt is recommended to only let the battery charge for a few hours at a time. Since the batteries are NiMH, ideally the charger should be disconnected once the battery level is back to full. In addition, the battery should be allowed to deep cycle a few times a month (Allow the battery to fully discharge before charging). The battery should be stored on the shelf with no less than a 30% charge (With NiMH, deep cycling is the key).
If this is not an ideal solution, Brady recommends the end user purchase a second battery and keep it on the shelf, swapping it with the one in the printer every month. This should prolong the life of both batteries.See Also
