- Can I upgrade a version 1 printer to version 2.0?
- The BMP21-PLUS/LAB firmware cannot be upgraded in the field
- How do I determine if they have a Version 2.0 printer?
- Physically there is no difference between the printers
- There are 3 ways to check the version
- Option 1 – Splash screen on initial power up
- Remove the battery / power supply from the printer
- Press the power button to remove any residual energy stored in the printer.
- Reinsert the battery / AC
- When inserting the battery / AC the printer will automatically power on and for a brief moment the printer LCD will read BMP21-PLUS 2.0
- Option 2 - Serial Number / Y Number
- There will also be a new Y number assigned - BMP21-PLUS (Y4610608); BMP21-LAB (Y4610610)
- Option 3 – Firmware Version
- With the printer powered off press and hold the Function + letter A and power On.
- Firmware version will be v2.29.84928 or above.

- The user guide has been updated and features available on the Version 2.0 only are marked as such.
New Features Added
- 2D Barcodes:
- Added 2D Barcode functionality using the following barcode symbologies:
- DataMatrix Large
- DataMatrix Small
- QR Code Large
- QR Code Small
- DataMartrix is limited to 44 characters and QR Code is limited to 50 characters.
- To add simply select Barcode option and select from the menu list.
- Must use .75” material and unable to print to 2 lines
- Lab Use – It is discussed in the manual but if placed on lab vials the scanner may not be able to read a smaller vial diameter. For this reason, it’s recommended to use a vial diameter of .59” or greater.
- Custom Length:
- New Label Type Custom Length has been added. User can enter desired label length.
- The length entered will include the 3/8” unprintable leader/trailer edge.
- Max label length is 99.9 inches
- Max characters of 50
- Text is centered on label regardless of the length.
- Lab Symbols:
- Lab symbols category has been added containing 55 symbols for the Laboratory market.
- Due to the actual graphic being small you wouldn’t be able to see the graphic on the LCD. For this reason a pictogram showing a mountain will represent the graphic placement.

- Default graphic size is 9pt. Unable to choose 6pt. since the graphic would be too small when printed out.
- Font:
- Original font of all characters changed to Arial® Alternative Monospaced which is the same font used on the BMP61 / TLS2200.
- Font width is more uniform compared to Version 1 font
- Slightly more difficult to read at 6 pt.
- Unable to fix this. – On version 1 the 6 pt. font had a special font library that was used to be more legible. This isn’t possible with version 2.0
- Greek Symbols:
- 22 new Greek symbols have been added. σ ε ζ η Θ δ ι κ ν ς τ υ ϕ χ ώ ά έ ή ί ό ύ ώ
- Warning Category:
- Two new symbols added to Warning Category, and Danger symbol revised.
- Panel Residential:
- New Label Type: Panel – Residential with 30 premade panel items for (Rooms, Appliances, HVAC systems) and the ability to add your own items that would be used to label a home circuit breaker panel.
- Recommend using ¼” material at 9 pt. font.
- User selects the words they want to print with yes/no toggle.
- All labels print left justified with same fixed width
- 15 character maximum
